Terms of Service

Terms of Service.

The rules of the road for using this site. Plain language, no surprises.

Effective: 11 May 2026 · Last updated: 11 May 2026

In one line

Use the site for personal or commercial crocheting freely. Don't scrape, don't claim our content is yours, don't sue us if a swatch is off.

1. Agreement

By using crochetcalc.com ("the site"), you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use the site. These terms form a legal agreement between you and Crochet Calc ("we," "us").

2. Permitted use

You may:

  • Use any calculator on the site, free of charge, for personal or commercial crocheting projects.
  • Read, save, print, and share the articles for personal reference.
  • Link to any page on the site.
  • Quote short excerpts of articles with attribution and a link back.

3. Prohibited use

You may not:

  • Republish, mirror, or substantially copy the articles to another website.
  • Scrape the site at high volumes or in ways that disrupt service.
  • Reverse-engineer the calculator code and republish it as your own.
  • Frame the site inside another site so as to obscure the source.
  • Use the site to do anything illegal.

4. Intellectual property

All text, code, calculator logic, illustrations, and design on the site are © 2026 Crochet Calc unless otherwise noted. The Crochet Calc logo is a trademark of Crochet Calc. Third-party trademarks (Etsy, Ravelry, Craft Yarn Council, yarn brand names) belong to their respective owners and are used here only for reference.

The formulas themselves — gauge maths, yardage calculations, hook conversions — are derived from public industry standards and are not claimed as our intellectual property. The specific implementation, presentation, and editorial commentary are.

5. User content

If you send us an email, suggestion, correction, or comment, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to use, edit, and publish that content (for example, to acknowledge a correction or quote a question in an FAQ). You retain ownership; we just get permission to use it. We will not publish your name or contact details without consent.

6. Calculator accuracy

Calculators are provided as planning aids, not guarantees. Real-world projects vary: yarn lots differ, hands tense up, stitch tension drifts. We strongly recommend always adding a 10–15 % buffer when buying yarn based on calculator output. If a calculator gives a clearly wrong answer, please tell us so we can fix it.

7. Third-party links

We link to external sites we trust — the Craft Yarn Council, Crochet Guild of America, Ravelry, retailer pages, and specific designers' work. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or business practices of those external sites.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The site is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranty that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that calculator output will be perfectly accurate for every scenario. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim arising from your use of the site is limited to $50 USD or the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months, whichever is greater. (Most users have paid us zero, so this typically equals $50.) We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages — including lost yarn, an over-purchased blanket project, or a misquoted Etsy listing — except where the law does not permit such a limitation.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify us against any claims, damages, or costs arising from your misuse of the site or violation of these terms.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the site (in whole or in part, for any user) at any time, particularly for users violating these terms.

12. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms occasionally. Substantial changes will be announced on the site for at least 14 days before taking effect. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [OWNER'S COUNTRY/STATE], without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.

14. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.

User-generated content

If you submit comments, feedback, suggestions, or other content to us (through contact forms or any other channel), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use that content for the purpose of operating, improving, and promoting this site. You retain ownership of your submitted content. We will not publish your full name or contact information without your explicit permission.

You represent and warrant that any content you submit: (a) is your original work or properly licensed for the use you're authorising; (b) does not infringe any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights; (c) does not contain unlawful, defamatory, harassing, or otherwise objectionable material. We reserve the right to refuse, edit, or remove any submitted content at our discretion.

Copyright and DMCA compliance

All content on this site — articles, calculator code, designs, and graphics — is copyrighted by Crochet Calc and protected by applicable copyright law. Dispute resolution and governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to your use of this site shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in the United States, conducted in English under the rules of the courts of the United States. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration relating to this site or these Terms.

Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking injunctive relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent imminent harm. This dispute-resolution clause does not apply where it is unenforceable under your local consumer-protection laws.
