Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy.

The short version: calculator inputs never leave your browser. The long version follows.

Effective date: 11 May 2026 · Last updated: 11 May 2026

Summary

We do not store the data you enter into our calculators. We use Google Analytics (in anonymised mode) to count visits, and Google AdSense to serve some ads. Some outbound product links are affiliated. We do not sell your information.

1. Who we are

This privacy policy applies to the website crochetcalc.com ("the site," "we," "us"). The site is owned and operated by Crochet Calc, based in [CITY, COUNTRY].

For privacy-related questions, write to [email protected].

2. What data we collect

2.1 Information you enter into calculators

We do not collect this. All calculator inputs (yardage, gauge measurements, project dimensions, hourly rates, and so on) are processed entirely inside your browser using client-side JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted to our server. Inputs may be saved to your own browser's localStorage so they persist between visits — this is stored only on your device.

2.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, our hosting provider and analytics tools may collect:

  • Your IP address (truncated by Google Analytics before storage)
  • Browser type and version, operating system, screen size
  • Pages you visit on the site and the order you visit them in
  • The referring URL (the site that linked you here)
  • The approximate city or region derived from your IP

2.3 Information you send us

If you email us, we receive whatever you write and the email address you send from. We use this only to reply to you.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar storage for the following purposes:

TypePurposeProviderDuration
Functional (localStorage)Remember your last calculator inputsUs — stored on your deviceUntil you clear browser data
AnalyticsAnonymous visit countingGoogle Analytics 4Up to 14 months
AdvertisingServe and personalise adsGoogle AdSenseUp to 13 months

You can disable cookies entirely in your browser settings. The calculators will still work — only the "remember my last inputs" feature relies on storage.

4. Third-party services

4.1 Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages get traffic and how the site is used. IP-anonymisation is enabled, and we do not enable Google Signals or cross-device tracking. Google's privacy practices are described at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

4.2 Google AdSense

Some pages on this site display advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our site. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the Internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu.

Google's advertising policies and how it uses information are described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

4.3 Affiliate programmes

Some outbound product links — particularly yarn and tool recommendations — are affiliate links. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you. Affiliate programmes we participate in may include Amazon Associates, ShareASale partners, and direct yarn-brand affiliate schemes. The retailer, not us, may set cookies during the affiliate-tracking process.

4.4 Embedded content

Some articles embed videos or images from third-party services (YouTube, Vimeo). These services may set their own cookies when their content loads. We don't embed anything without a clear reason.

5. Legal basis (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar laws, our legal basis for processing your personal data is:

  • Legitimate interests — running and improving the site (analytics, security logs)
  • Consent — for advertising cookies (where required by law, requested via our consent banner)
  • Contract / pre-contract — for messages you send us

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete data we hold about you
  • Object to certain processing
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with your data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We respond within 30 days.

7. California residents (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of any "sale" of personal information. We do not sell personal information as that term is defined by the CCPA. To exercise your CCPA rights, email [email protected].

8. Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it. This policy complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

9. Data retention

  • Analytics data: up to 14 months
  • Email correspondence: up to 3 years from the date of last contact
  • Server access logs: 30 days, then deleted

10. Data security

The site is served over HTTPS. We use a reputable hosting provider with industry-standard security practices. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

11. International data transfers

Our analytics and ad-serving providers (Google) operate globally and may process your data in the United States or other countries. These transfers occur under the safeguards Google publishes in its own privacy policies and applicable cross-border transfer mechanisms.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the site for at least 14 days before taking effect.
